05/08/09: The Great LiveJournal After School Special and Some Robots

The Russian blogosphere conveniently, if bafflingly, revolves around LJ. Each week, RUSSIA! scans the chatter and brings you the top five topics.

• One of the most blogged items this week is the Novosibirsk student Olga Malnichenko and her drunken vehicular manslaughter of a traffic cop. The arrest proceedings have made their way to youtube, including Olga yawning through the interrogation, Olga being reprimanded by a nurse for giggling through a breathalyzer test, and Olga's post-crash text message exchange: "Babe, I killed a copper, sorry. :( What do I do?" "Go into hysterics, don't say or sign anything." Yeah, so that plan didn't work. Bonus: Olga being put into a medieval Russian drunk tank which seems practical, suddenly. [Via co2]

• Blogger katoga shares pages from a sexual encyclopedia for kids aged 5-8. The book explores love of all kinds through cartoon illustration, from the simplest -- man: "I love strawberry shortcake," shortcake: "Eat me!" man: "I will eat you" -- to the more complicated (homosexuality!) and graphic (intercourse!). Response: fear, disgust, ROFLs, LMAOs, and disputes on age appropriateness such as: "If the author thinks kids can handle terms 'anal sex' and 'erogenous zones,' why the hell are genitals labeled 'hole' and 'faucet'?" [Сексуальная энциклопедия для детей 5-8 лет]

• Blogger cuvalda derives an alternate cause for Anna Karenina's suicide: it wasn't heartbreak via Vronsky but withdrawal from a morphine addiction. Tirelessly collected supporting quotations follow. Blogger requests doctors' opinions; commenters instead go into an intense literary debate smattered with insults and ultimately ending in death threats. But hey, you can't expect to call Karenina an infantile idiot and not have your masculinity questioned! That's just like, ru-LJ etiquette, man. [Каренина умерла от наркомании?]

• Blogger anastgal shares another laugh-worthy and possibly fake children's publication. The new illustrated alphabet book features various cute creatures experiencing the perils and horrors of Russia's working class. Behold a Penguin Pummeled by Partner for losing Part of his Pay under a Pillow, the Vulture Violently Vandalizing a Volvo, and the Absurdity of Aggressively Anarchist Aquatic Animals in Alcoholics Anonymous. Response: "Very funny -))))," "Not very funny -(((," and "I'm totally getting this for my kid." [Новая азбука - от Ксенопуса]

• And now, for our blatant attempt to end the week's round-up with something cheerful, here are some pictures of robots in a Moscow exhibition from blogger virusog. Come and see a Russian bootleg version of WALL-E (the question is, what don't we bootleg?) a furry green thing, something that draws, all kinds of ugly plastic-metalic concoctions of mysterious purposes and a cute dog Robic. Aw, lookit the wivle wheel-paws... Everything is o-kay! [Роботы уже в Москве. Спасайся!]
